About Us

ANTHONY & LISA TURANO
This autumn we are the "Traveling Turanos"! For six weeks we will be traveling through Guatemala, Chiapas (Mexico), and Belize - we'll start in the mountains and end at the sea. Once this journey is complete, we will begin our new life in Asheville, North Carolina.

The Proposed Itinerary

September 5 (ish) - we're off to Florida to visit our wonderful friends and family there.

September 18 - we'll fly from Miami to Guatemala City. We will immediately head for the colonial city of Antigua, where we will spend a few days relaxing and acclimating to Central America.

September 24 - we'll start Spanish School in San Pedro la Laguna, on lake Atitlan. (We will, of course, get straight A's and become fluent in no time.)

From there we head North to San Cristobal, in Chiapas, Mexico. (Where we've heard that policemen with sticks will smack you if you try to take photos in the Mayan villages!)

Then to Palenque, one of the mac-daddiest of Mayan ruins.

Then a remote border crossing from Mexico back into Guatemala across the Usumacinta River.

Onward to Flores and the surrounding area, where we will hopefully visit the family Lisa lived with in 2001. We'll make a stop at Tikal - the KING of Mayan ruins.

Another border crossing, into Belize. We'll stay in San Ignacio for a few days, visiting Lisa's friend Maria, who owns a hotel there. We'll also visit "ATM" cave - where we'll swim in the darkness to reach centuries-old Mayan skeletons.

Then, the final stop: Caye Caulker. We'll finish our journey in the islands, doing some snorkeling and relaxing on the beach with a cold beverage.

October 31 - we fly from Belize City back to Miami.

Sometime in November: we head North to Asheville, where we will arrive homeless and unemployed (but confident that both of those situations will change soon after our arrival)!
